Light

Before the lock down, I was at a friends home and I heard a high pitched buzzing.

I asked if she heard it and she had not.

I tried to “not hear it” but I could not ignore the intensity of the sound.

I finally said “Could it be the light is on its last leg?

I turned off some switches and the sound stopped.

We both laughed.

I said “You really did not hear it?!”

She said she did not.

I began to wonder how I knew it could be the light bulb.

It seemed to me that a handy man many moons ago told me about it.

It took my brain a while to make the connection.

Sometimes we know what a thing is and can take time to figure it out.

We always have the choice to walk away and say “not my monkey, not my circus” and often we do.

We give ourselves permission to ignore what we know.

This is why child abuse and domestic violence continues.

Lots of people hear the cries of victims and choose to pretend to be deaf.

Let’s stay present to what we know and what we can fix.

It could be as simple as giving a friend a chance to bring light into their life or as complicated as saving a life.

Always on your side,

Indrani
